History.

The Compiègne Wagon holds a significant place in European history due to its role in both World War I and World War II. This historic railway carriage, part of Marshal Ferdinand Foch's private train, was the site where the Armistice of 11 November 1918 was signed, marking the end of World War I. The signing took place in the Compiègne Forest in northern France, symbolising Germany's defeat.

Decades later, Adolf Hitler chose the same wagon for the signing of France's armistice with Germany on 22 June 1940, to humiliate the French by reversing the 1918 scene. The wagon was taken to Berlin as a war trophy but was later destroyed by SS troops in 1945 to prevent it from becoming a symbol of Allied victory. Today, a replica of the original wagon is displayed in the Compiègne Armistice Clearing, preserving its historical legacy.

For more history see the Brick Model of the Month feature.

There is also a WW2 version of the Compiegne wagon kit.
