History.

The Flying Scotsman is a legendary British steam locomotive built in 1923 for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER). Designed by Sir Nigel Gresley, it became the first locomotive officially recorded to reach 100 mph in 1934, marking a milestone in railway history. Renowned for its elegance and engineering, it was originally numbered 1472 before receiving its iconic name and number, 4472. The Flying Scotsman hauled the prestigious express service between London and Edinburgh, becoming a symbol of speed and luxury. Retired from service in 1963, it narrowly escaped scrapping thanks to preservation efforts and went on to tour both the US and Australia. Restored multiple times, it remains a cherished icon, celebrated worldwide as a testament to British innovation and railway heritage.
